Hydrocolloids

Skin-friendly products preventing wound infections

Oil-based Hydrocolloid Products are some of the special products used in Wound Care and in Ostomy Care.

You find Hydrocolloids as multi-layer products in different shapes and sizes for various applications.

Hydrocolloids are one of the most widely used technologies for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds. They help preventing wound infections by effectively absorbing wound secretions by creating a gel matrix over the wound and exfoliating dead tissue by maintaining a moist wound environment and providing a barrier to micro-organisms.

They are also used for wearable medical device applications for Ostomy Care and for example first-aid bandages and health and beauty aids for acne.

RCA Bignami has the appropriate technical capabilities for the manufacturing and packaging of these products.

Extrusion

The use of hydrocolloids in medical and pharmaceutical applications has been an important development. Because they are a medical implement, hydrocolloids have to be developed and manufactured according to stringent specifications. Extrusion of the hydrocolloids is the starting process in the manufacturing of Flanges and PADs.
