Oral Films (ODF/OTF)
Oral Dissolvable Films (ODF) or Oral Thin Films (OTF) are mostly rectangular monolayer or multilayer film strips containing an API, and disintegrating within seconds or minutes upon sublingual administration. or in the oral cavity. Once placed on or under the tongue these films dissolve quickly dispensing the drug with no need of water for administration, releasing the API.
Depending on dosage and API the size of these oral films are 2 to 10 cm² and they have a thickness of 20-500µm.

You can find oral films as monolayer or multilayer systems and with or without taste masking.
Having a long year experience in the field of manufacturing of ODF/OTF RCA Bignami can supply different solutions according to the material behaviour and product requirements.
Packaging solutions
Final packaging of the individual film provides safe use and protecting until the point of use with resprect to the dissolvable polymer matrix behaviours. Typically packaging elements like humidity, choice of packaging material, packaging design and appropriate opening features combined with intuitive handling are key elements to consider.
The final products normally are either pouched in a four-side-sealed pouch or sachet or they are supplied in containers of different shapes and in various execution.

Scalable processes
Due to the modular and flexible design RCA Bignami offer solutions suitable for these sensitive Oral Films of different design and sizes. All RCA machines will be individually designed according to the product and customer requirements.
Core processes such as slitting, printing, vision check, cutting, sealing are indivually combined to meet the needs of our customers and their products.
